A healthy, strong and active lifestyle is something that everyone desires. However, achieving it can be difficult when you’re dealing with pain.
Fortunately, Physical Therapy can help. Physical Therapists in Flint MI are specially trained to treat a variety of injuries and ailments. Their treatment plans are designed to address three main goals: Pain relief, strengthening and functional integration.
Pain Relief
Pain relief is one of the main reasons many people seek physical therapy services. Whether from a sports injury, work related accident or simply the wear and tear of aging, painful joints can limit movement and quality of life. Rather than heavy medication or risky surgeries, physical therapists offer an alternative and effective approach to decreasing pain and getting patients back to their peak level of mobility.
A patient’s treatment plan is individualized based on his or her condition and health goals. A physical therapist will assess the severity, frequency and duration of the pain to determine the best course of action.
The PTs at McLaren Flint are experienced in treating all orthopedic conditions, including total joint replacement; muscle and tendon injuries such as shoulder, knee, elbow and hip sprains; fracture rehabilitation; and neck and back injuries. In addition, they are trained in the use of modalities such as heat and ice, and neuromuscular electrical stimulation to decrease pain, swelling and inflammation.
Strengthening
We offer physical therapy treatments aimed at pain relief and strengthening services. Our therapists are trained in creating treatment plans that will work best for you, taking into account your health goals, range of motion, and level of pain. We will utilize different strengthening services, including massage therapy, ice and heat therapies, therapeutic exercises, light (including short-wave, microwave, and ultrasonic diathermy), water, hydrotherapy, electricity, and other techniques to assist you in regaining strength, mobility and balance.

Functional Integration
The goal of physical therapy is to help you live your life to its fullest, free from pain and discomfort. This can only happen if you take the skills and knowledge you learn in treatment into your everyday life.
Functional Integration is a unique type of Feldenkrais Method one-to-one lesson that uses the practitioner’s hands to guide movement. Each of the points the practitioner touches becomes a focus in the student’s experience and is used to follow the balance of tensions within the skeleton. This allows for the discovery of additional pathways of movement beyond the ones a person usually utilizes.
PTs are playing an increasingly important role in meeting the needs of patients nearing the end of life, as documented in the January special issue of the Academy of Oncologic Physical Therapy. This journal focuses on the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, and integumentary rehabilitative needs of patients with cancer and HIV, including palliative care. This is a rapidly developing field with increasing recognition of the need for more education, training, and practice opportunities.
A Healthy Lifestyle
Obtaining a healthy and strong lifestyle is the goal of everyone. However, it can be difficult to achieve when dealing with pain or injury. Fortunately, physical therapy is a safe and effective way to increase strength and mobility.
McLaren Flint offers physical therapy, spinal and orthopedic rehabilitation, vestibular rehabilitation for balance and dizziness, lymphedema treatment, and a comprehensive Women’s Therapy program that treats pelvic pain and urinary incontinence as well as breast cancer recovery and post-surgical musculoskeletal issues.
